Region: Pomerol
Pomerol wines are made from Merlot, often blended with Cabernet Franc and sometimes small quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon. They are rich in color and taste, but at the same time very approachable as they are not overly tannic or acidic.
Pomerol has no official classification. Without knowing anything about the producer it is hard to judge the quality of a Pomerol wine from the label, but usually the price tag is a pretty good indication. So maybe Pomerol does not need a classification, as the names on the labels tell the wine lover everything, while the occasional wine drinker cannot afford these wines.
Pétrus is without doubt the most famous and pricy wine from Pomerol. Its label just mentions "Grand Vin" or great wine, and great wine it is. However, it comes at a steep price tag. Luckily, Pomerol has many wineries whose wines are a lot more affordable.
