Winery: Château Mouton RothschildChâteau Mouton Rothschild is a company that produces several wines in several countries.
The most famous wine is the first growth Mouton Rothschild. In the 1855 classification the wine was classified as Second Growth (2ème Grand Cru). In 1973, the first revision of the classification took place with the only change being made the promotion of the Mouton Rothschild to 1st Growth (1er Grand Cru). The second thing to notice about the wine is that it is just about as famous for the packaging of the product as for the product itself. The label of the Mouton Rothschild wines are different every year, and every year it is a different artist designing the labels. The wine itself is a dark, full bodied Pauillac with blackberries on the palate, that needs 10-20 years to mature.
Château Clerc-Milon and Château d'Armailhac are made by the same company from vineyards adjacent to those from Mouton Rothschild. The company also started (joint) ventures in California (Opus One) and Chile (Almaviva).
