Winery information
Giovanni Gaja was the founder of the Gaja Winery in 1859, and it has
been family-owned and operated ever since. Angelo Gaja is the current
owner and winemaker, and he is considered as one of Italy’s most
innovative winemakers. He introduced small French barriques for aging
the wine and he was also one of the first to plant French grapes like
Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay instead of the indigenous grapes of
Italy. He was also one of the first that acknowledged and preserved
the individual characters of the different terroirs in the Langhe by
making single-vineyards wines.
His Barbaresco, Barolo and other Langhe wines are amongst the best
(and most expensive) wines produced in the area.
