Red: 98%, Rosé: <1%, White: <1%Margaux is the most southern of the Médoc appellations. In comparison to the other Médoc appelations, the wines from Margaux tend to be more delicate, subtle and elegant, and not so powerful. It is sometimes called a "feminine" wine.
The most famous Château is Château Margaux, which got the 1er Grand Cru status in 1855 and is still the top wine in Margaux. In that classification, Margaux received the most classifications from all appellations. Some Château's do not live up to the expectation of their classification any more; for instance Rauzan-Gassies and Lascombes, both 2nd Cru's, would both get a lower classification if it were to be established again. On the other hand Palmer, 'only' a 3rd Cru, sells for prices that would justify a promotion.
