Château Latour is a Premier Grand Cru (1st Growth) in Pauillac. Situated on the top of a small hill, with a soil that has a layer of gravel and its proximity to the Gironde river, it has an excellent terroir for making top wines.

Latour is known for consistency in quality, and even in pretty bad vintages the Latour wines are still of great quality. Despite the proximity to St. Julien, the Latour wines seem to have an opposite character: Dense, compact and powerful instead of elegant.

Apart from the Grand Vin, the second wine (Les Forts de Latour) even has the quality level of a 2nd growth wine, although is is not classified as such. They even make a third wine, simply the "Pauillac", still of respectable quality.
