From the three Léoville properties, Léoville Las Cases is without doubt producing the best wines. It is a second growth from St. Julien but often referred to as a "super second", meaning it often reaches the same level of quality as the famous first growths. This is unfortunately also true for the price level.

It is often compared to its neighbor, Château Latour, which just happens to be located in Pauillac as opposed to St. Julien, and the similarity in terroir and location make it seem only logical that Léoville Las Cases makes a top wine.The wine is made from vines from a single vineyard, the "Clos Léoville-Lascases". The entrance gate to the clos (a walled vineyard)  is depicted on the label.

It should be noted that although this wines is always called "Léoville las Cases", the label actually mentions "Grand Vin de Léoville du Marquis de Las Cases". This might be a bit confusing as the second wine is called "Clos du Marquis". This second wine is made from vines from a different vineyard. It is also of great quality, often better than many officially classified Grand Cru's from St. Julien.
