Château Montrose is a second grwoth (2ème Grand Cru) in St. Estèphe. Cos d'Estournel, the other 2nd growth, used to be considered the star of St. Estèphe, better than Montrose. Since 2000 however Montrose is back at the top, with the 2003 vintage considered by many as the best vintage Montrose has ever produced.

The high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%) give a very structured, tannic wine that can ago for decades.
